No, you can write articles using whatever keywords you want, and this will not cost you a penny. This method is known as article marketing and is very powerful.
To do proper keyword research you first need to type "free wordtracker" into google and click on the first website. This is a free keyword research tool and I used it when I first began article marketing.
Next you are going to put the particular phrase you want to target into google search, but put it in quotation marks. If you get less than 20,000 competing webpages, then go for it.
I don’t use wordtracker much anymore, as I now make enough money to use the software unique article wizard.

No, not unless you wanted to. Articles, when properly optimized, bring traffic of their own and when done right can rank highly in the natural listings of the search engines, generating even more traffic. You can do article marketing for free, Many have made a good living at this.
